David Piotrowski currently works as a Principal Engineer in Delta Air Lines’ Enabling Technologies group. His responsibilities include innovation of inspection technologies, oversight of Delta’s internal NDT materials and processes, developing and implementing novel inspections to solve in-service problems, and assisting in Damage Tolerance Analyses and Failure Investigations.
Prior to his 18 years at Delta, David worked at Pratt & Whitney for 4 ½ years in a similar capacity. Growing up in an airline family (father was Airline Mechanic, mother a Flight Attendant) provided David with unique perspectives of the industry, spanning decades.
He was part of teams which were named the 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012 and 2014 FAA-A4A “Better Way Award” Winners for accomplishments in NDT. In 2010, he received Delta’s highest honor for dedication and determination, being inducted into the ‘Chairman’s Club’.
He has Bachelor of Materials Engineering and Master of Metallurgy degrees from Georgia Tech, as well as a Master of Aeronautical Science (specializing in Technical Management) from Embry-Riddle. He is ASNT (American Society for Nondestructive Testing) Level III certified in Penetrant, Ultrasonics, and Eddy Current.
